The 5 of us were meandering down Degraves Street into Campbell Arcade where I saw a glimpse of a well-dressed guy heading into a café. He was sporting a beard and wearing a hat and although I didn’t see much more than that, it did peak my interest enough for me to wait until he exited the café. As he came out I took a quick 3 second look and immediately made my approach.

Please meet Paul.

Paul was friendly and open to my request and as we headed back to his work at the Jack London ({Men's Fashion} clothing) store in Flinders Lane we chatted about his band. Paul is the drummer and loves his music which I can relate to as I’ve been a drummer since the age of 14. His band (sorry, the name escapes me) plays a fusion of rock and jazz with its own unique twist. They have been performing for many years and it was clear it was something he has a great passion for.

He also mentioned that he had just graduated as a Tailor and will soon be going out on his own so it was no surprise to see him working in a {Men's Fashion} store and of course being so well dressed and groomed.

Paul was very keen to have his portrait done so we headed up the lane for a suitable background where I found the sandstone walls of Flinders House. He made the whole process very easy as he instinctively knew the look I was after, plus the fact that he had some previous experience modelling helped a lot. In the end I shot at least a dozen or so frames which was a lot of fun but unfortunately made the process of deciding which portrait to post extremely difficult. So I enlisted the help of my fellow stranger togs and wife and asked for their opinions.
Hopefully I’ve made the right choice.

Thanks Paul for contributing to the Human Family Project.

This is portrait #17 in my Human Family project.

this shot was a very close second as I like how it’s slightly candid and his tattoo is clearly visible.

It sounds like there isn’t a single "right choice" in a situation like this. What a stylish guy! I like the double background and the direct connection in your main choice but either could be at home in a men’s fashion magazine.

Stylish guy Paul is !
I think you made the right choice, Peter, although as [https://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffcbowen] mentioned there isn’t always a single right choice 🙂
Nice to hear that you are a drummer, too !

I do like the visible hand tatt in your comment shot, but as I chose the main shot beforehand I’m happy you ran with that one. A wonderfully stylish dude that you’ve captured perfectly.
